Last night, a local town judge sentenced Ed Kinane and 11 other protesters to prison, as a result of their peaceful protest against drone war crime. Comments in the local newspaper range from support to vicious criticism.
The criminalization of public protest and dissent is something all citizens should be concerned about. The homeland security apparatus was established to secure the homeland. Thanks for sharing this, Grace.

Naomi Klein did a good job of documenting the rise of disaster capitalism in her book “Shock Doctrine”. She discussed how homeland security became a booming industry following 9-11 and the Iraq War.

Exactly: a booming industry that feeds off of displaced fear. This reminds me of the statistics that show that the people we most fear (“terrorists”) are the people who are being most frequently terrorized. I can refer anyone who’s interested in the studies.
